Dhaka--(UNB) – Commerce Minister M Abdul Jalil has urged the Bangladesh expatriates to invest in the country to accelerate its development process.

“The government has taken up various programmes to make your investment safe and attractive,” he said in a meeting Tuesday at Geneva with Bangladeshi expatriates living in Europe, according to a message received here.

He said the expatriates had been playing an important role in steering the country towards development through investing their hard-earned foreign currencies in the country.

Referring to various incentives on offer in the country for private investment, Jalil said investment by Bangladesh expatriates was necessary to attract more and more foreign investors.

“Bangladesh has now emerged as a promising country in the world and this has been possible due to dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The minister said, “Bangladesh achieved independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu Seikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 but we could not yet achieve economic emancipation due to autocratic rule from 1975 to 1996.”

He sought cooperation from the expatriates to reach the benefits of independence to the doorsteps of the people in the new millennium.
